Lol, thanks for the info. I don't plan on going larger than 35's due to needing to be able to tow trailers, etc. still. Glad to hear I won't need to mess with anything. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to fix the power-ram assist or convert to cross-over. I've been searching this forum for all kinds of info.
The truck I inherited has been in the family since it was new off the lot. I'm the 3rd owner. It was passed down to my father from my great grandpa and now to me. I'm very proud of it, no matter how big of a POS it is, lol.
What is leaking on the ram assist? Depending on what the problem is it may be cheaper to convert to the 78/9 style. If you don't lift it, crossover isn't really a viable option with the f250 because the leaf springs will get in the way. The only way you could do X-over would be with an S bend drag link which is weak and generally just a bad design. So no lift, no crossover.
HIO Silver has all the reciepts and pics of the swap from ram assist to 78/9 style. You might post a message on his profile wall asking him about it.
Just for a reference, I have 315/75/16 tires on mine, which figures to be 34.7x12.5, so really 35s. Stock height. Lot's of guys around here run this size.
Not enough people are saving these old trucks. Nice to see a truck that's been in the family not going to the crusher.
They are expensive for sure. When you say piston do you mean the hydraulic cylinder on the front drag link and axle(looks like a shock laying on its side)?
We were just discussing this a week or two ago. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-one-open.html
Here is a recent thread talking about it.
They cost $225 +3-400 core charge. I forgot to mention, there were two types of Ram Assist that were available, the Garrison, and Bendix.
Garrison 73-74 F250
Bendix 74-77
I think the conversion to 78/9 style integrated power steering cost HIO about $280-300? So unless you just want to fix the ram assist, it's better to just upgrade to the newer style. It will also get rid of the bump steer inherent in the push pull design.
