telescoping steering shaft??
What exactly is this desighned for?? I am doing the steering conversion on my 74 with 78/79 parts. I plan on having a custom steering shaft made after I make sure that this swap is going to work, Anyway my 74 steering wheel shaft where the steering shaft bolts tot he steering wheel shaft is different than the 78, the 78 has a D shape the 74 is just round. I cut off the shaft at the steering knuckle on my 74 then I cut the telescoping shaft from the 78/79. my 74 sterring knuckle had a 3/4" hole where the shaft went and the steering shaft from the 78/79 went in that hole and I was going to weld it in. Looked like a sweet deal, but as I was cutting the shaft from the 78/79 some one started talking to me and I cut the damn thing a little short. Well i figured Id give it a try anyway and welded it up then put it in the truck to see how short Id be it was about an inch short and when I pulled on it the shaft it started to telescope out. So know it fits perfect?? Is this shaft supposed to move back and forth??
