Not that it really matters, I have been riding some type of bike for the last 38 plus years whenever I could/can. I will shortly have my HD out of winter storage, for the summer. 40 mpg.
People mentioned earlier in this post that the oil companies would burn hell for this. The oil companies had a good thing going when every single person was buying an SUV or truck and filling up 26+ gallon tanks. Why would they mess with that and make everyone buy hybrids and other tiny cars. They are not making a whole lot of money off of this.
Also when the rebate checks come in from the govt dont spend it on gas because it goes right back to the people who loaned us the money in the first place. The Saudi Govt
we could be at $1.50 a gallon by next yr but it want happen. we have all the oil we need. northern slope has enough crude for 200 yrs but we will not drill it. i just watch this video last nite from this guy named lindsey williams. the energy non crisis. its long 1 hr but this guy said things i couldnt believe about our oil problem. google his name or youtube it. pretty scary what going to happen to us if we dont drill our own oil. lot going on that we dont know. made me wonder about our future??. i hope he's wrong.
This could be a good thing. it will force us to drive fuel effiecient vehicles and use less oil. im down for biodiesel, i dont see why the gov doesnt promote it. but if you had a car that got 50 mpg, $10 a gallon wouldnt be so bad.
say you drive 10,000 miles a year and get 15mpg in your truck. thats $6,666 a year at $10 a gallon.
now say you get 50mpg in a diesel car, thats only $2,000 a year, which is the same price as driving a 15mpg truck with $3 a gallon gas.
and i dont know about biodiesel prices, we have virtually none here in new england. but i bet it costs less, not to mention very low emissions. i wish it would get pushed more it seems like a good option. if gas goes up this high, id love to have a diesel truck and run it on bio rather then have to drive a hybrid car

i swear to god that if gas goes over $5 my trucks are going to sit and im buying a bicycle. ill ride 20+ miles a day to save 20-30 bucks a day. ill ride that sum betch in the winter if i need to.
How true. Amerians have been consuming everyone elses oil for decades now. We're only 5% of the world but inhale 40% of its oil. The chickens have come home to roost and Americans are going to have to fess up, lose weight, and ride bikes. Too bad this took so long to occur. Maybe we'll be a bettter, less spoiled nation as a result.
$10.00 per gallon gas :
When it gets that expensive they will find more of it (in the USA)
A New Alternate fuel wil be found and used
Less Women and nerd's will driving big trucks they should have not got in the first place
people will Skip the new big house and move closer to work
conventional Gas and Diesel prices will then drop back
I hope you are right supeRobertduty. I am tired of people moving out here and then complaining of how far they have to drive to get to work and trying to tell me that I can not work on my truck in my front driveway. We are in the middle of nowhere for petesake.
I just read one article written by some major economist that expected a major correction in crude oil/fuel prices by fall of 2008, much like the housing market is going through now. He felt that it just had to, otherwise it would cripple our economy as we know it. However, reading the article at the beginning of this post, I don't know what or who to believe. I do know that I do not believe we are running out of crude though. My dad said when he was in college in the late 1960's they said crude would be completely depleted by the 1980's-1990's and we would have a completely different fuel source. Well, I think the same BS is being told to us now. Also, there is know way that ethanol is the cure all for this matter either. Another article I saw had projected that 30 percent or more of corn will become ethanol next year. Great, so we'll have to import corn in the future too. And see CRP and wetlands get used to become farm land. Clearly, there are no easy solutions here, but I am sick of this administration and their lies.
ArtsBest - I would like to see you ride a bike 28 miles a day to work round trip.. esp here in phoenix during summer at 105+F..and through the part of town that I have to
go through.. don't bother wearing clothes or shoes.they will just get stolen.. along with your bike... I mean you no disrespect, but for some people walking or riding a bike isn't possible.
I love these people that they interview on the news that have the "solution"...they always say "oh ride your bike or take the bus".. while filling their gas thirsty Chevy Tahoe.
