What is the difference between the 302 and the 302 HO. I am bbuilding up my 95 F150 and i am looking in the crane cams catalog for roller rockers and a new cam but the only 302 listed is the HO? Is there a difference?
As I understand it, the standard 302 is a non-roller engine, meaning mechanical rockers, while the HO is a roller engine, having roller-rockers. Roller-rockers have a bearing at their bottom that allows the rockers to move more freely, without the dragging of the mechanical rockers.
Hope this helps.

HO motors 1986 through 93 had forged pistons and 9.0 - 1 compression, roller lifters (NOT rockers), a bigger cam with 351w firing order, and were rated from 215 to 225 horsepower. All had better flowing upper intakes and bigger throttle bodies.
most all 302's (HO or not) had roller lifters. Non HO's had cast pistons with deeper dishes and lower compression, worse flowing heads, and were rated from about 160 to 190 horsepower.
15 second 1979 f-100 - 302, 3.70's, Powertrax Locker, MSD box, 2300 stall, headers, 4bbl. SOON to be 14 second 79.
I would rather PUSH a Ford than drive a Chevy!
15sec79 is correct. I have a 86 non-HO 302 out of a markvii and it has roller lifters, but has the normal 302 firing order. It also has a one piece rear main seal.
To clear up some things. The HO has the same firing order as the 351...and that's the only difference. The 5.0 HO was carb'd with flat top cast pistons that had four valve reliefs from 82-84.5 with 82 having a 2 barrel and all others having a 4 barrel. So 85 was a carb'd 4 barrel, but it got forged flat top pistons...same previous piston top...and a roller camshaft. In 86 it got fuel injection with true flat top pistons...no valve reliefs. In 87 the piston tops came back with the four valve reliefs, but also got a center dish worth about 4cc, but were still forged slugs. Somewhere in the early 90's the pistons went from forged to hypereutectic slugs...
