hey guys, my 1989 f150 302 4wd. need a new belt. But the catch is that i'm taking all the a/c components out, so i need a belt that will work for it. The problem is no parts store has one. So i'm wondering what belt anyone ran if they have done this before. I also would need the part#. Thanks guys.
To find a correct belt, I did was put string around the pullies with the tensior fully retracted(best to get 2nd person to hold it). Mark off where the string butts to the end, That will give you a best mesurment for a belt. Now find a auto parts store who can match up the "string belt" to get a size(most are idots who cant "mesure" a belt, so watch out). I have done this many times on many diffrent vehicles, you may have to get one like 1/4" shorter than the string mesurement to alow the tensior some play.
okay But how do I run the string. I mean now the a/c compessors not there so what pulley does the belt go from and then too. Iwant to make sure I run the string the right way
Keep the belt going as close as possible to the same direction. I woulud recommend finding a AC bypass pulley. Finding the right size belt will take alot of time and trail and error.
Be warned tho, I've heard that some of the bypass brackets have broke under heavy load. I've never seen it and it came from a friend running stangs. Make sure the mounting bolts are torqued down.
