Has anyone ever replaced the passenger side battery terminal (positive) on a 1996 F250 powerstroke?. Is this strictly a terminal you have to get at Ford? Never seen a terminal quite like this one. It is a 3 wire terminal with 2 huge gage wires (Appears to be 00 gage and 1 4 gage wire coming). Tried all the auto parts places and they have nothing which will work. They all say go to Ford. Before I go to the dealer and spend 200% more than I want to I thought I would ask the experts here. Thanks in advance Maxx
My local Interstate Batteries has a terminall like that one so i would look at a place like that. To get that same one just like you have stock you have to buy the whole positive cable and thats a pretty penny
There is a starter re-builder/battery seller near me that makes cables too. Might want to check something similar. He made me a set of the best jumper cables I've even owned.
Cut the cable off close to the connector. Get eyelet cable ends and crimp them on then get a marine terminal for the battery. It will clamp on the post and have a 3/8 stud on the other end that you can attach your eyelets to. OR you can change everything over to eyelets and get new batteries like I did. (only recommend if you need new batteries)
Thanks to all for the ideas guys I appreciate it. Called Ford they want $120.00 bucks for the positive cable. Ouch! I will come up with a work around for sure.
Tj, did you replace the stock cable going to the starter? I noticed this is a HUGE diameter cable. Will replacing this cable with a smaller diameter eyelet cable cause any issues with amount of amps running through it? Thought about replacing all the cables with cables from Napa, but again the diameter is much smaller than the stock cables?? Thanks
As far as I know the cables are stock. The cable to the starter already had the end replaced once before I got the truck but it seems to be the stock cable.
Thanks! I cant find a large enough eyelet to put on the end of that stock cable? That was why I was considering just replacing that part of the cable running to the starter with a standard eyelet end cable from Napa. But again the difference in diameter of the 2 cables is Mucho different. It sort of scares me to downsize that starter lead? Thanks again
Mine went in my 95. Purchased a standard replacement terminal with a molded cable, shortest one I could find (12 inches or so). Cut it down to 8 inches, and stripped the end (3 inches). Stripped out about 3 inches from the larger side of the original cable, that should be the one which runs from the passenger side battery to the engine. Used cable clamps to connect the new to the old. Lots of electrical tape and I was good to go. Total cost $15.00. That was 2 years ago, still going strong.
