I have a 97 f350 7.3 Last night I was on my way home from fishing. All I heard was a loud crack and thats all the trany wrote. I had her towed home. It wont shift gears at all. The two drive shafts broke at the joints. First thing first does this sound like a major trany deal ? What does a trany or the problem cost to fix? Is it worth the investment? Someone offerd me money a couple weeks ago for the engine. What would you do?
I would fix it for sure! But if you drive shafts (both? 4wd?) broke I would guess you may have an issue with the transfer case. were you in 4wd or 2wd when it happened?
I bet that was a loud crack, and are you trying to say both u-joints snapped on the rear driveshaft, or it broke a joint on each shaft?? did the tranny make any roaring noises or anything before it gave out?? whatever the problem it is definitely worth fixing the truck
It was the front and rear shaft. Yes i was running in four wheel. Both yoks desinagrated. I have it at aamco trany place now. I did not hear from them today. Ill call over there in the morning. There is a sensor that was sheard off the tranfer case and a nice little hole when the sharft went A wall. This is the deal. Im have alot of wiring problems witht he truck. Its licence plate should be know as short city. Its got rust. If it needs 4000 dollar tray is it realy worth fixing? In my book 180k ummmm. Thats a tuff one to chew. Im not sure what to do. Ill post tomorrow what the deal is for you guys to reply to.
For 4K you can get a really good tranny! probably won't cost you that much and 180K isn't much. I just broke 250K this week and bought the truck a year and half ago with 219K on it.
