wrong engine oil...oops!

hey everybody...I did an oil change today and realized that I put castroll 10-40 instead of 15-40...the container says nothing about being good for Diesel's...anyone have any ideas as to if this oil is ok...

thanxs,
Corey

Some oil is better than no oil.
BUT drain it and put in 15W40, I'm kind of cheap so I would probably pull the filter, drain it and put it back on.
I'd use the oil in what ever you origionally bought it for too. Just make sure and drain it into something REALLY clean. I can't imagine the little bit of 10W40 left in the filter is going to hurt anything.
I don't know for sure about your truck but some owner's manuals say you can sustitute oil in VERY low tempuratures but the HOT time of year is coming.
You aren't going to be LOSING anything so it's a no-brainer.

No you should not use gasser engine oil in a diesel engine. They are not the same oil. I believe gas engine does not have the same temp.rating as a diesel engine oil. Diesel engine oil must work harder and I believe has more additives than gas engine oil. If I am wrong I hope some one surely correct me .

What is the API rating?

The S part of the rating is for gasoline engines.
The C part is for diesels.

CD or CE and you are good to go.

Maybe this can help
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/LubesSelector.do
Or call their helpline. Some guys over here use 10w30 all year.
