Yep, some GOO GONE, a razor scraper and then a sander.
The GOO GONE helps break down the adhesive after you scrape off the stickers and most of the remaining adhesive comes off afterwards with soap and water. You will still need to sand off the remaining goo after that.
The heat gun is by far the best method, it's time comsuming because the stripes are brittle from age but it doesn't cause any damage to the paint underneath. If you are going to remove the paint to the metal anyway the razor blade and sander combo is quicker, but before you sand remove any glue residue with paint thinner or you'll waste a ton of sandpaper.
I took the stripes of my truck with a 3M wheel that you put on a drill that spins about 2000 rpm, My dad got it at his work and it worked great. Cant push to hard on it though or it will heat up and take the paint right off.
