Putting new shoes on my ride, then going to move up the performance. Currently looking at AFE Stage II Dry Cold Air Intake, Edge Juice W/Attitude and MBRP 5" Aluminized exhaust. After that, guess we'll see as funds and knowledge increase, with some helpful information from others.
This is a 2001 F350 Lariat Crew Cab Dually Long Bed 4x4 7.3L Diesel, my daily driver of 90 miles of state highway every day. Currently have 275,000 miles on the clock though it was an RV hauler in it's previous life. Pedals are like new but the cruise control buttons are worn. Entered into an Indiana sanctioned pull last year and made 2nd with 296', first time attempt.
This is my first diesel and my first post, so go gentle .
Glad you came on here before you bought the Edge. In 3 words DON'T DO IT. Now with that said, the other mods are good, and once you understand what I mean about the last statement. You will need gauges. What tires are you putting on your truck?
Welcome to FTE. Start reading and learning. We have the same truck, so I kind of know what is what on this. Look at the next words. DP-TUNER
First things first, welcome you will learn a lot here.
Second everyone one here will say custom tuning isn the best, you got two options tony wildman or dptuner.
the exaust is a good, the intake is good but search on here for 6637 filter and you will be reading for days. its ALOT cheaper than the AFE and works just as good
I did get a quote for DP Tuner but not comfortable with the process, removing PCM module. Also not sure how to change settings and what to do about monitoring. Not afraid of messing with the wiring but I believe instructions called for soldering the PCM to connect a switch. Heat from soldering iron to unknown component a concern. Any information on how this works would be appreciated. I do like having the display unit to show what's going on and the Edge unit seems to show quite a bit. I know a number of bowties that have put in the Edge recently and have been happy with it.
You can get an off the shelf tuner that will work with any truck of many years. DP-TUNER is a custom tuner tuned for your truck. Many people on here have run the edge stuff, and once they changed to DP, they could not believe the difference. Do a search on DP-TUNER and you can read for a week. There is no soldering involved with the install.
These guys have done the trial and error on tuners/chips for you. Take advantage of the knowledge here. You asked a question here, listen to what these guys that been there have to say. Then make your own decision.
Another vote for the DP-Tuner, all you need is a socket/rachet, remove the two PCM bolts under the hood, and a couple screws under the dash is all you need to read the numbers needed, as well as installing Jody's handy work. DP-Tuner is THE only choice for a chip, as you will find on this board....
PLEASE learn from ALL of us whom have experimented before you, seriously!
Another vote for DP-Tuner, I let the man himself install mine when I met him at Smokin in the Smokies. The edge system is very overated and can actually hurt your transmission where Jody programs in your shiftpoints helps your transmission last, for the price you cannot beat it.
As for the Exhaust and intake if you are looking to save money, go with a Mko 4in exhaust ($300) and a 6637 air filter ($35 ) along with a set of gauges ($300-450). Then your set unless you get a BTS Valve Body to firm up your shifts and save your transmisison($250) which Jody will tune for.
DP Tuner all the way. Put a BTS VB and shift kit. It will be like you have a brand new truck. You wont believe how much power is on reserve with these rigs. Do not make the mistake of using the Edge. With the DP Tuner you will get about twice the HP. If you want to blow your money by all means go ahead. Then a couple of months down the road you will kickin yourself.
i ran the edge stuff for a week or so now its for sale.. ha ha at first i was like yea i like the digital gauges and stuff like that until i got thinkin bout it and i really didn't need it so now its back ON the shelf until i can get rid of it so i can holler at Jody for some tunes i could REALLY use
oh yea i forgot if you REALLY THINK you wanna go the edge route.. the manual that comes with the juice w/attitude TELLS YOU that it doesn't do any modification to trans shifting to accomodate extra power! it does tell you to perform safely stack it with the evolution i think anyway its something ELSE that they sale so its a bunch of stacking to get it right but thats up to you! i asked the same thing about the edge and i got the same response and after using it for a week i listened.
Lot's of great help here, thanks! What method are you using to change the tunes and can you change on the fly?
Looked at the Wix filter info and worth a try for the money and effort. About what length is the hose and I did see a pic of what looked like a 45 degree elbow at one post.
