better yet there ross why not a built 200r4 as you can get them in bop bolt patterns and they dont need a stand alone computor or electronics for the converter . ? i agree with the 2something rear gear . ended up running a ridiculously low 323 i think it was in the poncho dirt cars as they didnt like the 4:11's or better i had in the others . still ran with the other boys without a problem because of the generous gobs of torque they made . had a 73 catalina more door that was the carterville illinois squad car had a sd 455 under the bonnet and a real low 2 something in the diff and it got great economy if you drive sensibly and ran like a scalded dog when you wanted it too ! dick c'mon we know its a ford site but i welcome anyone irregardless of powertrain as they at least saved the FORD truck from a fate we dont wanna think about . my preference and yours is ford in a ford , but i wouldnt think twice about dumping a built 392 hemi in one !!!!!!!!!! ol fi i ran sbc 400's a lot they werent any better than the poncho for rpm's unless ya modified 'em . blew a few of them up too . a dressed out poncho looks killer , just like a dressed out fe . they are / were cool plants for an old ride , the fe and poncho . if anything is overdone it'd be the blase , bellybutton sbc . again good plants but way to overdone and common . i'll drive a smoking dain near dead flatty or walk before doin' the chev thing .
Altho very similar in appearance, the BOP smallblocks have just enough differences from the CSB to be agravating, most engine parts will not interchange. If the engine doesn't really have any problems (a freshly rebuilt engine and tranny "for a song" gives me a bit of a pause, but my brother just sold a built Olds 350 + tranny he pulled out of his Omega dragracer in favor of a "real" CSB 350 for that very parts matching issue cheap just to get it out of the shop.) and you are planning on leaving the engine alone, there will be no problems putting it into the F100. Ford even went to the trouble to put a recess in the firewall for the distributor and GM put the oil pan sump in the rear to clear the crossmember!
AFA the frame and front suspension, depends on what you plan on using. The stock type parallel leaf and beam axle front is plenty strong enough to handle the engine, especially if you use one of the universal tubular engine mount crossmembers that puts no torque twist on the frame. The stock frame will easily handle up to 500 hp with sticky tires for occasional passes at the drag strip. The beam axle can be made to ride decently and easily converted to late model power steering. If you go with an IFS then you should box the frame at least back to the firewall since that suspension mounting (the suspension, not the engine is the problem) does put localized twisting torque on the frame it was not designed to handle.
The real Pontiac V8's share absolutely nothing with SBC's, although carbs were of course Rochesters on both. It's a completely different block, just like a nailhead Buick, Rocket Olds, or a Caddy.
OMG that looks like sheet...metal twisted up. Now, I think I can do a better job than that. I think my 12 year old can do better than that. Wow, what a mess. Ok box in the front end, and looks like some distributor issues hummm, and of course Ford out Ford in ya ya I get it Ford Patriots, LOL. Is the Mustang II a good investment or not? Thanks for your time and advice guys. Mark

Like so many other things (in life) there is no one simple answer, it’s a matter of variables. If you want to save money and wallow around in the mud at wrecking yards and work with dirty parts; the Jag, the Dakota, and if you can find one, the Voltaire (frame cutting required) all seem to make good conversions.
<O</O If your old and lazy (like me) and can afford it and you just want to pick up the phone and get new clean metal and pay the price; then the Mustang II works also good, many sold and installed. If you don’t need the bling and shine, Heidts make an economy kit with stamped A arms etc.
<O</O Oh yea, you can always fix the old (insert word).
<O</O Just my opinion.
It's your truck; Do what makes YOU happy. I put a 350 TPI 700R4 out of an IROC in my 50f1. Because like you I got it for a song. I also put a Jag IFS and IRS under it. Got 4 wheel disc brakes, Power steering. Saved a LOT of money. And I have what I want. I say go for it.
This is the Ford-Truck Enthusiasts Forum after all.
Meh!! Putting a GM in a Ford is like putting a pace maker in an old man......he may run better and seem more spry, but he is still an old man......And yes this is the Ford Truck Enthusiast site not the Ford Truck Purist site after all.....

So , a jag infront, a jag in back, and a sbc?? I guess you just wanted a truck that rides right and stops right AND runs right. I can relate to that. Oooooooooooooo
I love the stocker restos but most are still in the planning stage or parked in the garage. And a lot of the purests don't even have one that runs. To each his own though. For me. " I can't drive 55" and I love the 105 MPH feeling and the ability to stop on a dime.
