I've been looking for a project vehicle for a couple of years. Finally found one, a 72 Pontiac Lemans. Not a very popular car, but I like it and I think I got darn good deal. Its in pretty good shape for its age. The worst part of the body is the driver's side rear behind the wheel. Its rotted through. Also a small hole in the rocker under the driver's side door. The rest of the body is not too bad, although the paint is gone and all the rubber is dried up. The frame and floors are real good, no rot or bad rust. It has a 350 Pontiac in it with a 350 trans. I also got a 400 motor too, but I have to go back for that. Its buried in the guy's garage. I can't get it started right now, but it does turn over. I'll have to go through the ignition and fuel and check everything. I can't wait to get started on it. I have absolutely no experience doing body work, so this will be my learn as I go tool. I like it. I think that would have a points ignition system so check the gap at the points. Should be .019in. Draw a piece of clean, thick paper through the points several times to clean them and see if you then have spark.
Thanks for the compliments. It does have the old points ignition. There is spark at the plugs, I checked. I need to replace the positive battery cable to the starter. No continuity there. Then we'll see if it starts. Hopefully the mice have relocated, lol. And yes it is an old "you've got a friend in Pa" plate. This spring and summer I hope to get the body off the frame, sand blast the frame and all the suspension parts, get all new bushings, shocks and springs, brake and fuel lines, and get the motor in working order. The interior and body need the most attention, but I'll take my time with them. This is all new to me, but I'm looking forward to having fun with it. It'll be nice to have a car that you don't see too many of.
very nice tin injun' !!!!! glad your gonna keep her true poncho , or no dain ch3^* motors !!!! by the way check and see if the dain coil is any good . it'd keep her from firing , and check the wires from it to the distributor for breaks etc. had a poncho dirt car that just up and quit running mid race and i spent a week trying to figure it out and found a broken wire !!!!! the 49 f4 i had here would run when i first got it but then refused to start and again i spent countless hours tracing things down and the dain coil was bad ....... an electrical wizard i am not !!!!!!!!!
