FT or FE block

Hi guys;
I am wanting to stroke a 427 up closer to 500 cubes for my pulling truck, trouble is I can't find an affordable 427 block to start with, I had herd that some 428's and mirror 105 blocks will go that big or the 391 FT block, anyone have any coments, solutions or blocks for sale? Thanks, Warren

Well.....some of the old 406 blocks were cast with 427 cyl walls. Pretty hard to find but they are out there. The C4AE-A 406 service block was an underbored 427 with 2 bolt mains. That's a pretty well know fact tho. I've been hearing about a 67 428 block with a "S" sandscratch on the back that supposedly were cast with thicker 427 cyl walls. I've been talking with a guy who has one and he's going to send me pics that will hopefully tell the story there. Also hard to find. No other 428 or 391 will allow a 4.23 bore. You can still find some 427 topoiler blocks in the $1000-1500 range. Sideoilers are $2500 and up. You can still find decent marine 427 blocks and there are some industrial blocks too. Walk away from any marine block that has had salt water use. There are porous as a sponge. I looked at a pair here a few years ago and they were BAD!!! OMG!! I sucked it up and bought a new iron Genesis block. At the time I couldn't find anything else decent for the money. Soon as I did then every block on earth became available. But that's my luck. The Genesis block is very well done tho and will out last me no doubt! Wes Adams did the "poor mans 427" build. He would be the one to contact for details on that. That might be the one you were thinking of. Lots of trick and slick work went into that. Very cool build he has done. He's a member here too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the FT engines are the same as FE engines. The FT engines have reinforced webbings for the heavier cranks?

Try the classifieds here...... 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum post a WTB ad or keep an eye out. There are a few 427 blocks there now. Scroll thru a few pages. I've found stuff for sale a few months later than it was posted so you never know.

Also some FT's have a larger distributor bushing inside the block. Which can be replaced with std FE size. But yes other than that pretty much the same.
