I have a rear section of truck frame 51-52. I purchased it as a trailer for the bed and fenders.
I want to remove the springs, I have been reading about all the fun ways of removing them and decided I definitly dont want to do it Bobby's way, should I just torch or grind off the rivets attaching the hangers to the frame? (seems like the quickest & easiest way since I wont be using the frame)
I want to salvage anything I can off the frame and even then I'm not sure I would recylce it right away, just in case I can use part of it for something.
thanks
Josh
I personaly would love to be in Bobby's driveway with a few frosties and a lawn chair..., as he goes about taking on the frame-rivit removal ' procedure'....LoL!
I'm pretty handy with a torch though, with a torch and a pointed tip in the air-chisel, I could have them all layin on the ground smokin, in about 15 min.
Or substitute the torch for an electric grinder You can be a bit sloppy if you don't plan on saving the hangers or frame. But taking them off with the springs would make it easier to remove the springs with a shop press. Wish I was in Bobby's driveway too. It's snowing/freezing rain right now.
I prefer using a chisel in an air hammer. I use a cutoff wheel in a grinder to cut an "X" in the head (to allow it to fold up), then chisel the head off with the air hammer and punch the rivet stem out. Works real slick.
