Bad IAC Valve - EGR Issues?

When I read on how to test the IAC valve it says to unplug the connector, well if I unplug mine it doesn't change at all.
My 91 I-6 does idle up on startup then goes down in about 8 seconds or so, normal I guess?
Also my egr valve does open any time I step on the gas regardless of my engine temp, I replaced the temp sender (for the ecm) but there is no change.
And half the time whenever I step on the gas normally from a red light it stumbles a little bit, then takes off like it should, usually when warm though.
I tested a friends IAC from his truck that runs good (he says) and again no change, he wasn't comfortable with me unplugging his connector though.
I've got great compression (between 155-165 on all cyl's) recent plugs, wires, cap and rotor (brass contacts), thermostat, and the egr position sensor.
When I got the truck a year ago I had a ground issue, I've cleaned every connector (but the 6 injectors) I could find but they all were clean and shiny (except the grounds I found).
Any ideas would be appreciated...
Thanks - Dan

I'd say you have a vacuum leak.

I've checked or replaced all of the vacumn lines I can see, would a vacumn leak cause the egr to open when the engine is cold also?
