I got a 73 F100 pickup i picked up about 2 weeks ago. And I've been trying to figure out the vacuum lines cause it looks like some one had gottin carried away and got it wrong. it don't idle worth the dam but mite have it figured out but now im missing conections on my carb. I'm lost now i need help
its got a 390 auto trans, 2 barrel carb. i kind of re-routed a vac hose to the distributer cuz the one that was on there wasn't doing wut it was suppose to. who ever did it the last time, they just ran a hose from the side of the carb to the vacuum advance, kinda defeated the purpose.
It should run from the carb to the distriburter. If you run the vacuum from the intake your adavance will be backwards were it should be. You will have full vacuum to the advance at idle and no advance at wot.
There is no vacuum present at WOT, you can either connect the vacuum advance to a timed/ported source (above the throttle plates) or to a manifold/full source (below the throttle plates) the general rule of thumb is emissions equipped engines use ported vacuum and non-emissions equipped engines use manifold vacuum.
thank guys i tried to re-route it last nite and the dam thing quit on me this mornin. had a buddy help me to get it runnin,theres 2 ports under the carb one of them is runnin to some kind of thermistatic vavle by the distributor and that was routed to the intake manifold, and the advance off the distributor was plumed into the other port on the side of the carb! which now sputters but runs. HELP??
