Driving to work either my vacuum pump went out or a line cracked or something. But anyways it's making a spurting noise. (Like when the air dryer on a semi is frozen) everything worked find till I got about 3 miles from home and started to notice the noise. At first I thought it was just a leaf or something in the heater. But going around a corner I figured it was the vacuum pump. Brakes are hard , heater positions won't change, and it spurts. So my question is should I replace the pump first lines or both? Cause now I'm stuck at work about 30 miles from home. ......
There's a hose going from the pump to the breakout box ("manifold"). Take that hose off at the breakout end, start it up and feel for vacuum. Also plug that hose and listen for the noise. If the spurting noise persists even with the hose disconnected/plugged, then it's most likely the pump.
But would the vacuum pump spurt like that? Or should I check the lines also ? I'm at work so ill have to wait till lunch or after work (in the dark !!)
crazy - i think the exact same thing happened to me on my way into work this morning. my dashboard brake warning light has been coming on any time i use the brakes repeatedly (like in a parking lot) for about the past month, but i haven't noticed any decrease in braking ability.
then, this morning, the sputtering started, when i was about a mile from work, and the brake warning light comes on whenever i use the brakes. the sputtering sounded like it was coming from the brake booster itself, though. i'll have to poke around at lunch. hopefully its just a cracked hose or bad connection. i still haven't noticed my brakes going any stiffer than normal, though. maybe its been this way for a while and i'm just used to it...
I love how if its below freezing...like today..no power brakes.if above,no problem.I did a new pump 6months ago.I guess I need to check how much vaccum...I. think I need a booster.been doing this for years my buddy owned it too.he was not worried...I am.
