that is plenty thick, but should not be a real problem in warm weather. what is the minimum temperature outside at our location? are use useing this thick of oil by preference, or is ther a big price advantage to it? if the cost is the same, i would stick with a slightly thinner oil 5 w 20 or 5 w30 is recommended in most climates.
this is a tropical country so the weather is always above 32c...it is summer here right now...so expect a 40c temp.. the thing is i cant find a 5w30 oil here...which is ford recomend in my sport trac...what do you think if i use a 5w40 fully synthetic oil...what will does it do to my engine? with a 65,000 miles on it...thank's..
at warmer tropic temps the 5 w 40 will be fine. you can use synthetic if you wish, but my opinion is its a lot of money for small benifit. you normally get better better lube by changing the oil at 5000 mile intervals and keeping a good grade of standard oil in the motor, than you would be paying 3 times a much for synthetic and leaving it in there 15,000 miles. part of the reason to change to oil is to flush out any crud, fuel that leaked into the oil, or water/ humidity / condensation in the oil..
That'd be ok.
With today's oils I don't make a big issue out of it. I just use 15-40 Rotella T both my Jeeps and the Explorer and Grand Prix. 5-40 Synthetic in the bikes.
I had a drag-car (turbo Mazda 3) that I ran Walmart's Supertech in and it still runs fine to this day.
