key and tumbler help

To pull out the ignition cylinder, turn to run, and look underneath at the plastic shroud around the column. You are looking at the underside to see this. There are holes that have phillips head screws in them. One of those holes on the right side does not have a screw. Insert an awl or a long thin nail into that hole. You will feel some resistance, then it will "give". Then, while holding the pin in, wiggle the key and lock cylinder out together as a unit. Then pull out your tool. Put the new cylinder in with the key in it already, and the new one will snap in when wiggled in.
Be advised that a common problem with that vintage is that the relay rod from key cylinder to the actual ignition switch breaks, and is a common cause for thinking that the key cylinder is no good.
