well it seems that my bolt on idea is shot for a bolt on affair with a 60. after searching a few other sites it seams most portal boxes are reversed. it was looking so promising too. the rears swaps would have been easy to figure out, its the fronts that are tricky. but im still gonna try.

yeah im readin all the post over there right now. what i was hoping for was to be able to swap out the top gear to one machined for a dana 60 outer shaft then some sort of bracket to bolt the portal box to either the 60 hub or hack the tube off since it would need to be shortend anyways and just have a whole new end put on still using the dana shafts.

I couldnt find any write ups on mog60s. There is a ton of DiamondMogs and Mog9s.

Diamonds bring the ultimate cool but very costly.

i think the problem with the 60s is the inability to rotate the diffs with out major problems. and for most of these guys the 9inch is more then enough for there 3k lbs buggies and mini trucks.

I think youre right Tony.

As far as R&P goes a 60 and 9" are extremely similar. Plus youre running custom shafts so you cant argue the FF vs SF issue or 30 vs 31 spline count issue.

I did read that you pretty much have to swap to link suspensions and coilovers because of the greater rotational force the portal boxes cause when used with leaf springs.

i dont think its as bad as a lot of guys make it seem. a traction bar is a must thou. simple physics says leafs alone wont handle the forces. think of how bad axle wrap is with a truck like yours. and i think thats why most run the links. they are rock lovin hippies and need that half inch clearance.

i dont need an extra 1/2" of clearance! i just back up and stab the throttle a little harder the next time to make it over! works everytime!

fishy thats only cuz your drivin a ford. if it was a heep youd need that 1/4 inch let alone the half...lol

i wonder how well a chain setup would work??? would be easier to fab and a lot cheaper to replace a chain then something else if that was the weak link that broke.
