Bought a 1967 Ford p/u 1/2 ton, trying to figure out the engine. I know it is obviously a 6 cyl , but is it a 300 cid or did they put them in them back then? Any help would be appreciated.
Tim
I thought it was a 300, but someone else told me it is a 240. hopefully somebody can help or at least tell me where to look on the engine for any ID numbers.
Thanks Tim
Fourth digit is an "A" so it looks like a 240. Is this engine worthy of keeping or should I be looking to upgrade to a 300 or possibly " biting the bullet" and dropping a 302 in it?
The motor still runs good, I am just looking for some input.... good or bad on these motors.
Thanks Tim
Switching out engine is personal choice. If it's not broke I say don't fix it. Depends though, I left in my stock 300 because I'm all about stock.
What are you looking to do with it, if you're gonna restore it and make it a beauty queen then leave it be, if you're gonna use it for haulin, towin, beatin ect then drop in an 8!
As far as is it a good engine...in my opinion all cast iron dinosaurs are worthy of keeping if for the right purpose...not really a whole lot to go wrong on them like the new garbage.
Remember on a forty year old truck anything could have been changed.
Your VIN will tell you what the truck came with not necessarily what is in it now. Check casting numbers (not sure where they are on 6's) or check the stroke as suggested before.
