Flywheel

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-02 AT 01:19 AM (EST)]Ok this is what's going on. The car while running will chatter like the rockers are chattering but found out it's something in my tranny. Could this be the flywheel? Throwout bearing, pilot bushing, starter or a whole mess of things? While the engine is running and not moving clutch engaged this chattering stops and the vibration goes away. Oh yea forgot to mention the vibration. The vibration is real bad while in gear and going down the road but the chatter goes away. Is there such a thing that this particular 302 was made for an automatic and if this is true what's up with that? How would I correct this fault? This tranny is a five speed. Still don,t know what to look for to tell what kinda tranny this c-4 c-6 what? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. And thank you airharley for the input earlier

The difference between an engine that was with an automatic versus a manual would be the pilot bushing in the crankshaft. Automatic engines don't have these installed. Without this bushing/bearing, there definitely would be a strange noise when you pushed in on the clutch. This is also hard on the input shaft bearing on the transmission since there is nothing supporting the clutch assembly except the trans shaft itself.
