Ugrade man. trans?
My 72 has the original 4spd in the floor. First gear is a granny gear and is normally not used. Anyway, the sincro's are getting a little weak and I can either rebuild trans or upgrade. I was thinking it might be nice to upgrade to a later model 4spd or 5spd. Anyone know anything about this? Is there anything out there that does not require moving the cross member or changing the drive shaft length?

What engine?
There is a late '70s-80s 4 speed OD that MIGHT bolt up, but I'm not sure of the dimensions compared to you current box.
It's the first one up here.

Tough sledding for OD behind an FE.
The NV 4500 is probably the best, strongest truck trans, but is not free and requires some mods.

Not an O/D trans, but the close-ratio T19 is a direct fit, just did the swap to mine a few weeks ago and love it. No more granny gear and 4 usable all-synchro gears more closely spaced make it much more enjoyable to drive. For O/D I added a Gear Vendors.
