Side View Mirrors

During another one of my off road adventures this weekend a Tree branch popped back and knocked the passenger side mirror off of my 1997 F-150 4x4(4.6L). The mirror is currently being help up by duct tape that i spray painted black so it wouldnt be so obvious and until I decide what to do. (Didnt just want it hanging there banging against the side of my truck) I have a few options and just thought I would gather some opinions first. I can either go to a Parts store and spend roughly $100 for a power mirror, Or go Junk Yarding and just find one with the same color plastic cover (white). Both of which would be identical to what is already there. Shouldnt be to hard. I also like the mirrors that have the built in turn signals on them. That would require me to replace both mirrors though. Im also not sure if I have all the electrical wires that it would require to hook those up. Any suggestions? Comments? Opinions? Whatever.

I had one of the mirrors off my 97 and saw no wires. It probably is doable but might be a fair bit of work.

You should be able to pop the painted plastic cover off, so it doesn't matter what color you get at the junk yard.

I had a 97 F-150 with power mirrors, and replacing the driver side wasn't bad. That truck was totaled a couple years ago, and now I have a 99 F-150 with power mirrors and the built-in turn signals. When I bought the truck, the mirrors were peeling inside. I went to a Ford truck junkyard, and ALL the mirrors he had were in the same condition!! It seems there is something about the LED's that allow moisture to the backing, and allows it to peel. I have left the mirrors as they were for over 2 years (I can see OK) but my niece will be getting her permit soon, and I don't want her struggling to see. She will be prcticing in my wife's Maxima, and my pickup. NOT the Ex!! So, I will be shelling out a few hundred dollars to replace them this week. I found a site that has them for 1/2 of dealer price, and they have chrome covers! My original match the body, but are starting to show their age!

Being a '97 you most likely will not have the turn lights in the door. Mine didn't but I still went with signal lights, but I haven't wired the turn signals in yet.

If you can remeber that site to get them half off hit be back up and ill see if I can find what I want.. I have chrome door handles, and the handle on my tail gate is chrome also. So I guess the Mirrors would just add to the pot. haha.

Here is the link that will take you right to your mirrors page:

Ford Parts Wholesale Ford Body Parts Discount OEM Replacement Auto Parts - Mirror

The mirrors power mirror w/o signal is ~ $63.00. I paid $140.00 for the mirror at the dealer a few years back, and that was without the chrome cap!!

Best of luck!

Don
