I bought a rebuilt np205 devorced transfer case and installed it about a month ago in a frame up restoration, so it has not been driven yet. I added oil and bolted everything up. looks good but the thing leaks out of all but two gaskets!!!! I know that the gaskets have been replaced.. What do I do??? I can't send it back and I don't really want to drop the thing to put new gaskets and RTV on it. It seems like the gaskets won't seal? and yes I have re-torqued everything.
It seems that all the gaskets below the oil fill hole are leaking. I used RTV on the bolts and that seemed to slow the leaks some but not all the way... It is just a shame that a rebuilt case with new gaskets would leak.. My old one only had one leak and that was around a shaft seal.. The only reason I replace it was because I was unsure of it's past and it looked pretty beat up.
That's the chance you take on a re-build. You never know what idiot worked on it. Sounds like you need to regasket. These t-cases are pretty sturdy. If the old one had no symptoms, I would have kept it. Rebuilding these things right takes a ggod amount of knowledge and experience. Any warranty with it?
Yep, have a warrenty. I however don't want to drop it and try to ship it to Utah from California. If that gives you a clue to who I bought the thing from? The only question I have about a purchase like this is? What else is fu';ked with this thing? The speedo gear is from a dodge! Not a big deal becasue they are a little better and strudy but when I called to inquire if I had the right case they said that is the way ford made them?? I am just a little ignorant in this area, but I said Bull--it!!!!!
It would cost me too much to drop it and ship it back!
