help decoding 72 t-bird vin

sorry guys couldnt find the info anywhere(vin= 2J87A126712 ) the only thing i'm looking for is the motor in the car 429 or 460 ? any help would be great

'72 Thunderbird will be a 429. You can go here for more info.

the air cleaner cover says 460 it might have been just placed there

Upon further looking, the "A" in your VIN, should be a 460. Optional equipment.

It would most likely still be a good motor the main reason the Hp ratings dropped so much in 72 was because they switched from gross hp (crank shaft) to net hp (rear wheel) the number actually are not a terrible as they look.
