To check your swaybar isn't as easy as some other suspension components but here's some simple ways. Check if the bar can slide side to side (bad), hit the corner of the bar with the palm of you hand and if it clunks, you need bushings. The end links you pretty much just grab and shake. If there is play they are bad.
I dont mean to knock canadian tire, but most of the time the tires they sell are lower quality tires. You can still get the brand names like michelin, goodyear, but you get the bottom end tires from them. Same as if you get tires from walmart. Now Im not gonna knock a lower end good brand name tire, but compare those to a higher quality brand name tire, and you would be amazed at the difference!
I special ordered the Michelin LTX M/S's from Canadian Tire. They brought them in, one order, from Michelin's Montreal distribution centre. Took a week for them to come in.
Canadian Tire has a deal where they will bring in particular model tires for you through a special order.
They don't, or at least didn't handle Michelin LTX M/S when I ordered them. The Michelin LTX M/S are highly regarded as a quality tire.
My source...owner anecdotes (many of them) from the U.S. tire firm TireRack's website. Great resource when you want to compare makes/models of tires.
If you buy a Goodyear tire at Canadian Tire the only place to get warranty is from Canadian Tire....Seems Canadian Tire have these tires made to their own specs for sale in the Canadian Tire chain.
Goodyear has different models of tires they have for stores like walmart and can tire. From a goodyear shop they get what is called goodyear select tires.
I didnt know can tire special ordered tires either, thats good to know. I went there for some 235/85/16's a weekish ago, and they told me they could not get them in for me.
Well the job is complete. Six new Michelins, a set of Monroe Reflex shocks, swaybar bushings front and rear, ball joints, universals in the front end, and a wheel alignment. Truck has a much reformed demeanor on rough roads. However, leaving a trail of 4 rubber marks will have to come to an end! Did a brake inspection (4 wheel disks on mine) and still almost 2/3 of a pad left on originals!!
One problem encountered - one of my front hubs was shot!!! The other had been done on warranty. No clue as to why but all dry and toast! Only about $475 extra for this. None of my Duramax buddies have had any problems like this! Imagine all the razzing at jave I will have to endure! So much for all the b.s. about how the FORD front end is so superior and thats why its seen on more jobsites - total fallacy. Now that I have asked around, this is a common failure!
And on a different note, there is so many differing opinions about why this truck is on the job site more then that truck. Dodge alot because of the cummins, ford alot because of all around toughness. To be honest I dont see alot of chevies though. Where I work the trucks get used and abused, you should see some of those trucks that come from the oil sands!
Not saying there isnt chevs out there, but the majority is definatly dodge and ford.
Also, you shoulda reminded us you were coming into the city, I totally forgot, and I was in town yesterday morning at the gym, i coulda met up with ya after!
I forgot too - ended up being in a hurry in the morning to get there by 730. The front hub has me upset some as I have never gone 4x4ing with this truck and have always slowed right down to engage/disengage 4x4. It would not have mattered, both were bone dry and they say its a no-service item!
Oh well, we all learn by our mistakes.
