Exhaust size?

I sold a 94 PSD F-350 dually 4x4 to a friend.
It had stacks that he didnt like so he cut them off and took it to a muffler shop for a new exhaust system.
They put about a 2 1/2 inch pipe on it?
The reduced the 3 1/2 inch down to a 2 1/2 inch muffler and tailpipe.
Isnt BIGGER better ?
Hes not happy about it but i said i ask here before he goes bnack complaining.

Yup i know that for a fact also , but my question was "does it matter if they reduced it down to 2 1/2"?

well i'd assume so because doesn't a PSD havea higher output of exhaust gases then a gasoline engine, so by having a smaller pipe it would restrict the flow and cause problem i'd guess

i would assume it would hike up the egts and restrict flow and power.

Yeah hack that junk off!! The truck will not like that small of pipe at all!! If they can't go bigger tell them to put back on what they took off and put a turn down on it under the truck!

X2 what Tim said. The smaller pipes will make the exhaust hotter and in an extreme situation overheat turbo or ventilate the pistons. Definately take it back and get your money back or a "proper" exhaust.

X3.
Backpressure on these trucks is made by the turbo, and it doesnt need help doing that.
Less BP is better

UPDATE.....
He took it back today and the muffler place showed him there book and the specs called for a 2 1/2 inch pipe.
He went to the other muffler place in town and they told him the same thing.
Also the muffler they put on it has baffles its not a straight through myuffler.
I wonder where i could find the specs online?
I think they dont know what they are talking about , my truck which is the same as his has a 3 1/2 inch all the way back.
