I have a 92 F250 with a 7.5L 460. The motor only has 4000 miles on it and when it was built, the owner put a race cam in it but, with no other changes to the fuel injection system.
The engine runs ruff I think because of the cam but, there is another problem. If I am right, when the throttle position sensor or the throttle motor starts to go bad, the intake system has a problem with finding the right fuel to air mixture.(if I am wrong, please let me know). I am having that problem now. And the question I have is since there is a high performance cam in it, would that cause the motor to run like that because the sensors that tell the computer what to do can be getting bad readings because of the way the cam makes the motor operate. Sensors like the oxigen sensor, knock sensor, and the throttle position sensor. Can these sensors give the computer false readings. Would it make a differance if I change the cam back to stock or should I try by changing the throttle motor and sensor?
By the way, the motor keeps flooding it self out. Always runs very ritch.
I just installed a cam this weekend. I did a lot of research on this and found you must buy a cam that is speed density friendly, if you don't the truck will have no power run real rich. The big cams just don't make enough vacuum for this set up. Ditch that thump stick and buy a computer friendly cam. I am sure that will solve your problems.
Thank you!!! I am going to change out the cam back to the origional. This way I have less to deal with.
This summer through the winter or 08-09, I'm doing a frame up resteration on it. Should be fun! I know that I have to change out the sincros first thing. Can't stand the grinding in 2nd.
