hello,
i have a 1957 F600 that currently has a 292 v-8 and it takes to much to get it to run properly. so i was thinking of swapping it out with a 302 out of a 1972 F150. i was wondering if it would mount up ok in he truck or will it take different motor mounts? also will it bolt to the transmission ok? if not will i have to do to get that motor to fit in the truck? also what will i have to change around to get the motor to fit work in the truck properly? this will greatly help out my project.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Feb-02 AT 12:20 PM (EST)]The 292 is a "Y" block. It has the engine mounts on the front and rear vice the sides for the 302. You will end up getting a engine swap frame for it. I have a 351W in my 64 that has the engine adapter mount. Kind of looks like a big set of handle bars. You can get a kit from LMC Truck PN # 45-0360 for $99.95 years 53'-64'. As far as the XSMN I haven't a clue. I have the C-4 that was with the engine (needed a adapter for that too). One other thing to look at is the radiator. My truck had a 292 and the radiator wasn't big enough to cool it properly. So you can guess what else I had to change.
