I can't stand snakes I'll pretty much run away shreiking, luckily I don't run across any here.
I used run away screaming with spiders of all sizes, but now anything under the size of a dime and I'm ok, anything over that size and it feels like theres a million crawling on me and I have to go hide in the corner (after checking for spiders first of course )
Just this morning, I went to get in the shower and I saw a large (50 cent piece sized) Wolf spider just chillin' on my bathmat. Threw on my welding gloves and picked it up, then plopped him in the toilet! LOL
When I was 5 my brother threw a large jar of spiders ,he had collected,on my head.My hair was long then and my mom had to cut my hair short to get them out so I would stop screaming. So show me anything that looks like a spider and I pretty much run like hell !!! As far as snakes go,I scream and run, scream again and run and make sure I look back to see if they are chasing me...lol...sounds funny, but omg its so true.
I am the current world record holder for a 1 legged, standing start, high/broad jump.
When I was about 10 years old, I was walking around the back yard one day, not looking where I was going, and stepped on the head of a coiled rattler.
When that sucker started buzzing and I looked down, I immediately jumped about 6 feet high and 10 feet out.
I also found out that I CAN do an Iron Cross, but that is a whole other story.
I grew up around snakes and spiders so neither of them really bug me. Sure I wouldn't pick a fight with a rattler or a cobra but they wouldn't turn me into a screaming little girl.
I spent most of my younger life on a farm, gardener snakes of all sorts were around everywhere. I use to grab then by the tails and wipe them around while I chased my sisters, who were absolutely terrified. I was a vicious screwed up little kid, I'd pop snakes with my .22 and toss them to my dogs who'd rip them to pieces.
One of my best friends in middle school had a pet boa for a couple years. It grew to about 9 feet before he sold it. We'd catch gardeners, water snakes, frogs, rats, and other pests. He'd let the boa out on the basement floor and we'd stand around and giggle as the boa choked the life out of them and swallowed them whole.
Before me and my girlfriend old split I had to kill all the spiders in the house. She'd see them and scream bloody murder. She always wanted to watch me smash them so she'd know that they were dead. Every now and then I'd intentionally flick the spider in her direction, she'd flail her arms and legs while running around like a idiot screaming, it was pathetic.
I noticed no one mentioned squarpions, when I was 6 years old I spent about a month with my aunt and uncle who lived outside of Phonix Arizona. One morning I put my shoe on and something stung the absolute hell out of my foot. A squarpion had made a home in my shoe. My uncle smashed the S.O.B. with a hammer and took me to the hospital. My foot swelled up real bad and I had to take some anti-venom medication, otherwise I was fine. To this day I haven't encountered a live squarpion face to face, not to sure how I'd handle that.
By the way somewhere in my basement they're is a hardened amber wax ball type thing, in the center of it is the smashed remains of the squarpion that stung me. My uncle wrapped it up and gave it to me a week or so after I stepped on it, I'll have to find it again.
ummm, maybe we should have another poll...Yes,Iam afraid of Jimbo Beam,No,Iam not afriad of Jimbo Beam...I think we may be related,or maybe my oldest brother and you are(the spider collecting one, that is)Yikes !!! I hope you`ve given up all that boa stuff...
but show me a wolf spider, and i am faster than superman running away.
growing up on a farm, i learned very fast what a wolf spider looked like after getting bit by one and finding out i am allergic to their venom.
black widows and brown recluse don't scare me as much as a wolf does.
and as far as snakes go, only rattlers scare me when the surprise me. if i see them before they sense me, it is no biggie. but when one of those critters start sounding off underfoot unseen, I'm air-born!!
Well since I am a biology teacher, it all depends. I am not scared of snakes or spiders, but I do have a lot of respect for specific varieties. This is really true since I live in the desert.
Remember some of them are actually good for you and your house. They help to keep your land pest and rodent free.
I have never liked spiders but waking up to a ratherly large spider sittin on my leg is really scary. Snakes on the other hand i see quit often and kill them without a problem.
