Custom Intake

My dad being a former drag racer i was cleaning out the garage and found a harwood hood scoop used on drag cars and came up with the idea to run flexible intake tubing with cone filters straight up from the throttle bodies and into the hood scoop. Would that be a bad idea if i did any water crossings or mudding?

Im sure you could run the tubing some how so that all you would have to do is drain the tubes after you go through the water. and as far as the mud goes I would think the worst it could do clog the filter. Other than that it sound like a good idea I was going to do the same with my 460 but i ran out of ideas to mount the hood scoop. I was going to do it like the shakers of the muscle cars. And the tubing was another thing that I never pined down. Good luck and I would like to hear how you do it too have fun I hope it works

im thinking of making the tubing go down and then back up into the scoop incase any water does get into the filters and trys to make its way into the throttle bodies. Im gonna use some 2" wide steel to go from the back of my engine to the front and strap my filters to that and then my dad had pins that would hold his hood on and im gonna get rid of the hinges for that if i cant open with hinges after i get the filters running through it

sounds like it should work fairly well. Are you going to bondo it to the hood or just glue or somthing? But even though it looks good on paper I am sure you will run into somthing once you get to it. With a little fabricating and maybe some paint it should look real nice. And is the 351 a single hole throttle body? And is it speed dencity or mass air? because if its mass air you are going to have to run it through the stock sensor unless you buy a new one. Im a 460 man so I dont know much about the 351 efi.
