So I have this 1998 Windstar LX(Leather, blah blah blah) with 154000 on it Value of around 3-4k. Possible trade for a 1978 F150 Ranger 460 4" 35"tires Unknown Miles. Body is rough (slight rust, no real dents, faded paint, well used) but engine and transmission are tight. Good Trade?
Hi there Shawn, welcome to the site. Without more information on the truck, it's hard to say if they are an equal trade value-wise. It also depends on the location. Since you're farther north, I would imagine that it would be a little harder to find rust-free trucks, so if the body is in decent shape then the truck you're looking at may be worth some cash. I can really only speak from where I'm at, and down here in Texas a truck what you're describing would be worth a little less than that. Around here I would expect someone to pay maybe $2500 assuming a solid drivetrain.
I hate to say this, because I am a life-long Ford truck fan, but with gas prices going the way they are, a lifted truck with a 460 and big tires is about the last thing I'd be looking at if I were in the market for a new vehicle. Your van is going to get much, much better gas mileage. But, if that's what you want to do, then by all means do it because it'd sure be a fun truck to have. I'm just saying that fuel costs between the two vehicles might be something worth factoring in to your decision. Either way you're going to have a Ford so you can't go wrong right?
BOY that's a tuff one.If u think u can get to 200K miles with the van I'd say don''t do it.If u don't think the van's got much left to go miles wise I'd do it.
