Truck Wont Run

to start with I have a 97 F250 7.3 psd 5 spd

my truck will barely start when the engine is cold. once it does start it hardly runs and will quit after about 1 to 2 minutes. if I keep it plugged in long enough that the engine is good and warm it is still real hard to start. at this point it will keep on running but it is rough and definately not as powerful as it should be.

an injector buzz test has good results. the only thing that comes up besides the ebpv error caused by having it unpluged, is 2 codes out of the cylinder continuity test. one of them is P0195 (engine oil temp sensor fault) and P0713 (trans temp sensor high imput). that is the description that the snap on scanner gave me of the codes.

I didnt realize that there are trans temp sensors on the manual transmissions where is the sensor at. the other code (p0195) does not even show up as being a code that was an option on my truck. has anyone ever encountered this.

Have your batteries load tested , clean the terminals too. The scanner may not be reading the PCM correctly due to low voltage especially if you did a KOEO scan. The EOT and TFT sensors will not cause a no start. The PCM ignores them and assigns a value that will allow the engine to start and run. Not sure why you have a TFT code on a stick shift? Maybe the scanner is not compatible with our diesels?

the batteries are both good and the terminals are all clean. yes it runs better when the engine gets warmed up. the glow plugs are all brand new, and a new gpr. my valve cover gaskets were melted and I just put new gaskets, under cover harness, glow plugs, gpr, and repaired the wiring harness ends where it partially melted them too. now this problem occurs. my original problem was a combination of glow plugs and the gpr. the scanner was purchased last year and was the newest top of the line SNAP ON scanner at the time, it works great.

I know that the pcm will advance the injection timing when the eot is cold. the engine runs about like the timing is being advanced too much. it has been sitting over night now so the engine is good and cold. I am going to go try to start it now and have the scanner hooked up to it while it is running at its worst to see if it picks up anything new. I will keep you all posted.

Spazin just hit it-ford likes to use fuse link wire in alot of places. Ford mechanics have argued this with me but I am still finding it on trucks as new as 2000. If the wires burned or melted, replace the wire. Even if it is not fuse link, the heat can cause problems in the wire that you cant see without stripping it clean.

Then it does sound like the EOT. Does the scanner have the ability to monitor the sensors while the engine is running? just to verify the EOT is inop. Maybe clear the codes and see if they return.

yes it can read all of the sensors while the engine is running. does anyone know the part number for the eot sensor? according to ford there is no such thing as an eot sensor for a my truck. also is that the sensor that is screwed into the front of the head on bank #2 or where is it if that isnt it.

Try these:
Oil Temp Sensor (EOT) Connector, Engine
(International) 2501106C1 (dealer must get these in 10 packs. May or may not order if you only want one...)
(Ford) E1AZ-12A648-A (not available?)

Bookmark this page it contains a lot of PN's for our trucks

Here's a repair pigtail if you need one:
Terminal Supply Company - Product Detail : SAFETY PRODUCTS -> PIGTAILS -> FORD PIGTAILS -> FPT-91-6995

I found this on the Wilson site too

Opp's ....I turned myself in to the part number gods. I've been duly punished.
I promise that's the last time I do that...
