Winter mpg vs summer

I seem to get about 10 with mixed driving here in NE. As good as any other old ford i've ever had so i'm not complaining at all. I like to play a little on on ramps. In sept i swear i got 15 on the highway. Just wondering what your getting winter vs summer?

Same here. Before winter hit last year I was getting like 12 or 13 mixed driving and it seems like I'm still only getting the 9.5 I was getting in the winter. I've been considering a vacuum check since the last time I dropped below 10 was when a line broke on the intake. Also have a stock 99 V10 4x4 and 4.30s

Oxygenated gas is sold in most areas from Nov. 1st thru May 1st. Mine drops from 11.5 to 9.5 in town. I wish may would hurry up and get here.

as budman states, winter blend gas ver summer blend. the winter kills the mpg's of any car. the more junk they put into the gas the worst off we get. here in NJ i have seen some pumps saying as bad as a 15% in oxygenator additives.

my mustang on a summer time 165 mile trip has gotten mid 20's with the little 4.0 v6. winter time the very same trip driven the same way has been as poor as 14.

to the epa.yah sure it dosn't affect the mpg of the car or truck.how about the hard cold true facts. most likly they are driving a gov. car and don't pay for the gas like us poor blue collor people. or retired like me.

and we are not alone. the diesel guys feel it also. not as bad! but they have to make sure in the winter that is is winter blend or chance of suffering from fuel gelling if they fail to add antigel to the fill up.

Man what in the heck is the purpose of the winter blend fuel anyway? To promote easier starting in cold weather? Well I guess I can quit hoping for better mileage every fill up until May...

More than likely because gas is usually cheaper over the winter so they alter it to get worse mpg so you have to buy more. During the summer gas prices go up so they shoot you an extra .5mpg. Thats a good question, wish I knew a definitive answer. I'm just in a pissy mood now after seeing 87 gas jumped to $3.65 gal in my area.

My winter to summer mpg doesn't vary too much, of course I don't live that far North.

I'm in PA so I guess were not close geographically. But at least we're getting screwed the same as far as gas prices go. I'm going to have to shop for a nice shiney new Schwinn or GT after a while.

It has to do with EPA air pollution regulations, different parts of the country need different blends like California requires a different blend then Michigan and not all the fuel sold in different parts of the country have to be oxygenated, also they switch all the different blends to winter or summer, makes it 100X more complicated to refine into all the different blends and just makes the whole process more complex.

So that would explain why not all gas stations premium blend is 92 or 93?

Most of the premium octane ratings around here have gone from 93 in the last couple years to 91.

I saw a decline in octane in my area as well. The Sunoco I buy gas from used to have 87, 89, 93 and Ultra 94. Now they have 87, 89, 91 and ultra 93. Now your paying more for less octane.
