I recently had to change my plugs in my 90 f350 w/460 they had never been changed ever! Well after trying everything I could to get the plugs out I broke 5 of the 8 plugs. I got all but two plugs out with a drill and a tap,and they are fine. The two that I could'nt get out I messed the threads up in the head. I did however use helicoils in them ,but they leak a bit(tick tick) My question is will a set of dove heads from an older 460 carbed engine work on my 90 460 efi I looked while heads were off and there does'nt seem to be much difference. I don't know what year the heads are off of. Any help is much appreciated.
Well, you're SOL with the D0VE heads unless you plan on switching over to a carburetor. EFI heads only work with an EFI manifold, and carb heads only work with carb manifolds.
Now I'm sure someone has already tried this, but right this moment I'm wondering how difficult it would be to make an adapter to fit the EFI upper plenum onto a carb intake manifold. And drilling holes for the injectors, of course. Then, in theory, anyway, you'd be able to have your cake and eat it too. But I think I'm tending toward oversimplifying things.
The intake manifolds will physically bolt up, but the ports are different and won't match up. Exhaust manifolds will be the same way. You'll need EFI heads to run EFI.
