Transmission issue
89 F-150 4x4 with a C6.... I rebuilt the engine and put a shift kit into the tranny.... The engine starts, but the transmission won't go in gear.
Assuming we didn't mess up the shift kit, is there anything else that could be wrong? We put 3 gallons of fluid in... We adjusted the band to stock, and to what the instructions with the shift kit said....

Well sometimes its a screen and sometimes its a filter. I guess I meant filter. You can't miss it when the transmission pan is off. You have to be careful getting the old seal out of the hole, and make sure there is a new one when you put the new filter back in.
I'd say this is your problem or you just don't have enough fluid in. If your not sure about the filter and the seal then you should get a new and clean plastic box that fits under there and drain it and hopefully keep all the dirt etc out. Then you can reuse the fluid you drain out. Make sure the filter and seal are all okay. No cracks in the pipe or the filter assembly, no gouges in the hole the seal fits to. The seal fits on the pipe of the filter and the whole thing is pushed into the pump suction hole. The pan holds it all up there.

Never mind we found the problem. The internal shift mechanism wasn't aligned correctly... Which brings me to good news.... the truck, after three months of freezing weather and more snow that an eskimo, runs and drives perfectly. (At least as perfectly as a truck with the egr and o2 sensor not connected can be)
