I have a 1978 F-150 2 wheel drive with a 6 cyl. I am putting a 302 in it. I went and bought a 302 from the junkyard and it did NOT have a flywheel. First question is wheel the flywheels interchange? Its an Auto tranny!
Second question is the 302 had all of the flywheel bolts in the crank and there was a washer/ spacer on there also, does that need to go on b-4 the flywheel or on the outside of the flywheel or do i even need it? It is approx 4 inches across.
Any help would be appreciated as i would like to put the motor in but am not sure on this spacer/ washer.
Tim
The flywheel will not work. The 302 is externally balanced. The flywheel and harmonic balancer balance the crankshaft. Even if you change to a different flywheel, it should be balanced to the engine. Take note that there are two different weights for balancing the 302. I'm not sure if there are two different flywheels also. Next thing, is on an automatic, it's technically a flexplate. Don't know about the spacer though. Go to the 302 forum and do a search. There is unbelievable amounts of info there.
