rough running

My truck has been riding rough lately. Today the engine light started coming on. Black smoke and some water/liquid occassionally drips from the exhaust. Before I go to the garage....does anyone know what may be the problem?

Had the engine replaced last year...but up until now it has worked well.

The CEL coming on means that there are Fault Codes being registered. I'd strongly suggest you have these codes read. Oddly enough, your engine mught already "know what may be the problem".

Most parts stores will do this for free, some repair shops as well.

Providing fault codes & details of what you're running can help immeasurably on FTE.
