I have been having a jerk/hesitation/ misifire on my 2000 4.6
It has 110,000. I just changed the plugs in it. Plugs have never been changed in it until I did it this week. My question: Is there any visual cues if a coil pack or COP is bad? Some I pulled off had cracks at the bottom of the boot ( normal rot ), not all the way through but mainly form the inside going out. Are there any visual cues for bad spark plugs since that could be the problem also? Some plugs had some rust around the top porcelin
Have you changed the plug wires? I had a problem just like that with my truck, and the parts strore ran a computer on it with a code of number 3 cyl missfire. I changed the wires and the problem quit. Something about the plug arcing to the head..Hopefull this will help you..
None that I can think of but you can replace the COP boots, it is as close to replacing the wires as you can get and it should be done every other plug change for good maintenance.
Make sure to use dielectric grease on the boots to seal them to the plugs.
Scan the computer or misfire codes. It will tell you which cylinder is missing.
