I finally called Tim Meyer today and got my engine kit for my 351m all ordered, including a 400 crank. The only thing left to do is call comp cams to get a part number for my roller cam for the kit. My computer isn't acting right and I can't view the comp cams website very well. So...I need to call them to get a custom grind cam part number. I don't really know how they come up with the custom grind part number, so can somebody please explain to me about custom grinding? Does anybody already have a custom ground comp cam that they can tell me about?
I have a custom grind from Comp Cams. The custom grind is made by using a Ford Cleveland Blank part # 32-0000-8 and grinding lobes from a list of available grinds. You select the intake and exhaust lobes separately. These define the duration and lift. Then you select the Lobe Separation Angle, and the Intake Valve Center Angle.
I used grind # 3632F / 3411F HR114+4. This cam has 273 degrees Intake Duration at 0.006" lift and 0.602" lift with 1.73 rocker ratio. The Exhaust Duration is 299 degrees at 0.006" and the lift is 0.607" with 1.73 ratio. The LSA is 114 degrees and the ICL is 110 degrees installed 'straight up'.
The duration @0.050" is 224/244.
I used Dyno Sim to design this cam to get the perfomance and street manners that I wanted.
I don't recommend that anyone else use this cam without examining their motor specs.
