John, The tranny worked fine 2 weeks ago when i pulled the motor.
Does anyone have pictures of how to hook up the kickdown? It was originally on a 2v and now it's on a 4v. it doesn't seem to reach, and to be honest, it seems i brain dumped taking the carb off. I have never messed with carbs
Mine works fine without the kickdown linkage hooked up. The job of that linkage is to downshift when you floor the pedal. Like you do when you pass someone.
solved it. This truck is starting to make me feel stupid. Ok i might be doing to my self. I'm sure i will not forget to remove the vacuum plug next time i put on new lines. LOL i wasted hours!!!!

Been there done that!!!
Green, The tranny will shift up without a kickdown on the vehicle at all. It will run fine without one at all, you just don't have the downshift by mashing the gas available.
Yes, it will work fine WITHOUT the kickdown as that ONLY controls kickdown for passing.
If you leave the VACUUM line off the modulator/or carb.....it will NOT shift right, or hardly at all since it doesn't know what you are doing. The govenor(inside tranny) will finally shift it once it reaches a certain RPM.

Or puke the fluid trying. Been there done that cost me a tranny. Just take the time to hook it up right. Not having the kickdown there will cause the torque converter to stay locked up longer before downshifts for passing if you have a lockup converter. This in turn causes extra heat which leads to premature failure. Just my $.02

The converters stay locked up in the C-O-M and C6 trannys used in our trucks.
The type you are referring to is used in an overdrive unit.
Yes, all late model tranny's need a cable or rod hooked up to control transmission. The old stuff does NOT as it just uses the vacuum modulator to know what your doing.
