My 00 needs new shocks again. Last time I went w/ Motorcraft shocks because the dealer was running a special - practically giving them away w/ installation. These lasted about 30K and weren't really that good after probably 20K of that. The left rear is leaking. I don't have a ton of money to spend but want to see what other folks are using before I decide. Our 03 has Monroe's on it but I'm not set on these - don't seem to be any better than the MC's on my 00.
Keep in mind - I tow 10-12K on a regular basis.
What's a good choice other than Motorcraft or Monroe that won't break the bank?
With Diesel @ $4/gal its crimping my maintenence/mods budget a bit.
You have a few options, you could go with KYB for instance. Stay with a monotube shock only given your needs. I'd put Bilsteins on mine so I never have to think about it again for 100K. But KYB are a very good second choice. Shockwarehouse.com has a large Bilstein inventory if you go that direction. Good luck.

A set of Bilstein Heavy Duty with the member discount is $250.61 with free shipping!
Looks like Bilsteins are the concensus. I'll probably order a set this week.
I paid about 170 for the motorcrafts installed - that's tough to beat. This time though I have the time to install them & want something that'll go a little longer than 25-30K
