1950 Engine Conversion to 302

I have a 1950 F-1 that I want to put a 302 in. I'm wondering if a mid 80's bronco engine munts would work or do I need to go custom built? I am also looking for a manual tranny to go with it and am wondering how many fram mods I will need to do for it to fit? Also does anyone know a drive shaft that would work in this configuration or do I need to have that custom made as well? I want to get a 9 inch rear end for it.

All the questions you've asked have been covered many times and addressed in many different ways. Do an Advanced Search on some keywords and browse the older threads, then come back with specific questions. You can do ANYTHING to a Bonus Built, it's just a question of time and money, your patience, and your skills.

Yeah, good luck on that search feature. The 302 will fit fine but you will probably have to make your own mounts or buy aftermarket. I can't say for sure but I doubt if the Bronco mounts will work. Any manual tranny that will bolt up to the 302 will work in your 50. You may need a new crossmember or modify your old one for the later transmission. A nine inch rear from 57-72 is practically a bolt-in. Plan on having a drive shaft made for your swap unless you get very lucky and find one that is the correct length...

I don't know the specifics for the small block Ford engine swap but I would guess that a front crossmember engine swap mount is readily available from a variety of vendors.
For the tranny you will have to do some modifying to the tranny crossmember. If you want to keep the brakes under the cab then its all tied in together. Again, I think there are components readily available from vendors for this.
for the driveshaft, your best bet is to have one made, or make your own and have it balanced. While you are at it you might as well swap in a 9" ford rearend. The 9" from a 1972 and earlier Ford trucks is the right width and is dang near a direct bolt in swap. After all that is said and done its pretty easy to have a driveshaft fabbed. The local driveshaft shop can tell you to measure for it.

Good luck
Bobby

I gave up on the search feature long ago. I could never seem to get what I wanted to come up. I figure if I can't get it to work well for me then there are others who can't either...I'm not as smart as I look!
