Vegetable Oil Conversion Kit Comparison

I'm going to be converting my 2000 7.3 Ex over to a 2 tank vegie oil system, hopefully sooner than later, and was wondering if anyone out there has a similar vehicle converted with any of the main kits available (greasecar, frybrid, dino fuel, etc). Just want to hear of some other experiences before making such a purchase. Any info would be much appreciated!

I have a 2002 7.3 with a 3 tank veg system from fossil free fuel. I love it. I have the stock 44 gallon tank for veggie as well as an additional 30 gallon aluminum heated tank. Start up and purge are done with an 18 gallon diesel tank. FFF has been top notch to work with. I had thought I would go with Frybrid but the biggest challenge is getting any sort of action from the owner. In my opinion it's the age old problem of it it's this challenging to get good service prior to the sale imagine what would happen once they had your money. A 2 tank system is the only way to go. I have more than one vehicle running WVO and love it. Driving past the fuel stations is a great feeling and will only get more gratifying as prices continue to rise. One word of caution or suggestion is put the cart before the horse and find a reliable source or sources prior to conoverting the vehicle. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info! I was looking at the golden fuel systems kit....mainly because they can fit both tanks under the truck, which is a nice thought since my truck is usually filled with tools and ladders. I believe the others have the tanks in the rear, which I could work around for sure, but the thought of having all components underneath just sounds awesome. Any thoughts on that? I've got a buddy who's been running WVO for a couple years now who has the oil hooks, so that is taken care of, and he is actually the one who gave me that final push to do the conversion. Also, did you install your kit yourself? I live in Denver and there isn't much for installers for most of the kits in this area. The only one I've found is for the grease car kit who has an installer close by, and they assured me that their kit is pretty reasonable to install yourself......plus the guy is booked out for over two months anyways, so I would most likely be performing the install myself. Thank again and I definatly can't wait to just drive right past those $4+ prices!

I have heard so many horror stories about running these systems. So from all of you guys that are running this.Once you get a V O source and you get your system installed...How much straining of the vegetable oil is required before putting it into the vehicle? I have heard that if it is 99.9% clean it causes major clogging in filters and injectors. Is this true or just rumor?

There are many rumors about running wvo. I would recommend taking a look at the frybrid forum or infopop for further info as it's too detailed to list out in one post. Simple fact is that if you set it up right and follow a system you will have no problems what so ever.

IF anyone has this up and running how about a mileage update on the VO and issues with the truck if any. Also any tips on installation,, treatment of the oil. My only hold back is the supply of oil. Many are going to want the veg oil and I would expect suppliers to sell it vs. give it away.

I am running a cocktail of diesel and WVO and looking to add a tank and switching valves. Did you add a new fuel pump and filter for you oil system or are you using factory pump a filter for all three tanks. I am a little worried about getting a completly seperate system like Dino fuel is recommending and the cost involed with that option. I appreciate any advice

I am curious how much the multiple tank system costs compared to the vegistroke system that has only the stock 44 and the wvo 40 tank. Also, are the frybrid and others automatic or do you have to switch over? I ordered the vegistroke and am hoping I made the right choice.

Hay PDX02,
I've done a few WVO conversions myself and am thinking of selling my suburban and moving into and excursion. I was wondering if you have any pictures of your system, and more specifically your tanks. Also you say you use the main tank for veggie, is it a steel tank or plastic? My research says stay away from steel for the veggie system.

Feel free to PM me.
Rudy

In my opinion there is only one system to consider that came out after I purchaed mine. it's made by a company here in portland called Dino Fuel Alternatives and it's called the vegistroke V3. they have a partner company called frybrid that they are partnered with that should you be operating the truck in an extremely cold climate. They have a bunch of pictures and information on the site as well as a really good forum. I can't say enough good things about these guys.

My main tank is plastic I believe and it works great. I have had a bit of a challenege with the fill for my aftermarket diesel tank but I am getting it all worked out. The company I purchaed the plans from was sort of like, well here it is, have fun with no real hard and fast directions for the install but through MUCH trial and probably more error i have it pretty well dialed in.

Well I sat in an Excursion yesterday and concluded that this beast is just to big for us. My wife struggles with the Suburban already, I can just hear her in the X. The ride actually wasn't as nice as the Suburban but it was comfortable to be in. I'm 6'6" so it worked great for me. I'm on my bike though year round to get to work so it is my partner that needs to like the vehicle. Yes I have seen veggie stroke. I had plans with my electronic crazy buddy to do a similar system but haven't got around to it.

Thanks for the input. I have yet to see an actual pick of a tank install on an X though. If you can point me to one that would be great!

If you want to see pics of installed excursion tanks head to dino fuel alternatives website or to frybrid.com and do a search. There are plenty of them. I would crawl under mine and take a few but it's nasty and gross outside here in oregon.

Mr. Wilson. I was here reading posts and I think I saw that you've installed a vegistroke on your 2005 6.0 Ford diesel.
That's what I own and am thinking about the vegistroke system. Can you offer me any advise? Do you run waste vegi oil? Is it a pain to filter it before you dump it in your tank? I'd love to email or talk to you some more.
