new thread new problem
recently went to a solid state ignition pertronix to be exact and got the flamethrower coil was running with this setup for a month plus than all of the sudden died while at idle
so i replaced cap and rotor again and still no spark to the sparkplugs there is however a spark coming from the coil ive messed with this for hours with no solution i currently have everything as far as the coil and solid state ignition tore off and am going to start fresh in the morning
can any body explain why i am not getting a spark to the spark plugs
oh and to clear up any confusion i took the cap off and used whiteout on each of the eight spark plug wire points in the cap where the rotor makes it spark and there is no sign of a spark jumping or any thing else as far as that goes
I've seen mention of a resistor wire or module when installing one of these, but cant recall much about it. Search Pertronix you should find tons of info. Hopefully someone will chime in with more or another bit of advice. I run a Crane Xri and it didn't require the resistor scenario.
How much spark do you have coming from the coil. You need enough spark at the coil to at least jump a 3/8" to 1/2" gap or you just don't have enough spark.
The resistor wire is in the wire bundle that runs from the steering column to the ignition coil. It is the pink one and it ain't easy to bypass it. You have to go back toward the ignition switch until you are past the resistor part and splice in a new wire to run to the coil.
well i got the 69 ford running im a dumb@*! the air gap was off and i think i had a bad ground in the distrib it didnt make sense though it was running before and now than it wasnt so i was leary to suspect anything i havent messed with before none the less its up and running thanks for everybodys help i will throw some feedback outthere later
