Yes they are the same. Some of the aftermarket ones I have ran across are not the best fitting, but they are supposed to be the same. I put a set in my 85 Bronc, but I didn't like the smooth look so I bought brand new older style ones.
By the way, welcome to FTE, the best ford truck site! (I just wanted to be the first to welcome you!)
I'm thinking about buying some aftermarket tail lights and was wanting to knowif they would fit my 1986 I'm trying to mke it look a little nicer then it allready is
Go to aftparts.com. I don't know what you want to spend, but I like their taillights. I'm gettin the stock ones for my 85 Bronc. They are a newer clear style, but they are very obviously the lights for this truck, look to be made with the same molds. They aso have them in the style you mentioned, and none of them are that much more expensive.
I got those lights from them they are junk they dont line up right and the marker lights were way to short dont buy them you will be wasting your money
The only real difference is cosmetic. I would stick with the ones that "look" right though. 1980 to 1986. My preference.
Also check with your local DMV. Some of those lights are ilegal to use in some states. Make sure they are DOT aproved.
Why did you have to go and do that! I had the ones I wanted picked out and now I can't decide! Just kiddin. Those smoked ones are sweet.
Hey Fords forever- How bad are those taillights really? I can get all of my other clear stuff elsewere, but I really, really like those 80-86 ones at aftparts. Do you know of anywhere else I can get that exact taillight?
Don't forget the turnsignals under the head lights. I know that those are legal in clear. Look at the stock ones on an 80 model.
I saw those on an 80 Bronco in the yard and was intrigued. I didn't take them, but if they are still there when I go back tomorrow I think I'm going to grab them.
I'm guessing that you have to run amber light in them though, no?
It would depend on state I would think.
In California, turn signals and parking lights for the front cxn be amber or clear.
Front marker lights need to be amber with amber reflectors that will reflect amber from a white outside light source at 500 ft min.
Rear marker lights need to be red with a red reflector that will reflect red light from an outside white light source at a distance of 500ft min.
In the back, Taillamps need to be red, turnsignals can be red or amber. A reflector that reflects red light when a white light source is shown on it must be visible from at least 500 ft min.
All, lamps must be Department of Transportation aproved, and stamped as such, or you can get a fixing ticket.
You can see the DOT SAE number on the stock lamps just above the back-up lamp lens, as example.
In Oregon, they don't like these type of lamp housings at all. DOT approved or not.
