the shop that the big central texas dyno event was at this past weekend specialized in vipers, and road race/drag cars. the owner was showing me a stroked 426hemi they had put in a brand new jeep grand cherokee. he said it made 500hp, and ran mid to low 11's
I'm not saying they're not fast -- just that now that we have things like 3 or 4V heads, the hemi isn't the best technology these days. Kind of like the Super Cobra Jet -- bad-*** motor, but it's easier to make more power from the same cubes with today's hi-flow heads. Look at some of those ricer motors -- they're getting 500HP out of half the cubes.
Those "Hemi's" aren't as fast as their owners think they are. I too have spanked a couple and it is great fun. I have a buddy that has one with the feared "throttle body spacer" and he is always bragging about how fast it is but for some reason he never wants to run me.
Here's the story on one of my encounters with a Hemi:
I finally had to pop into this thread. Why would anybody for an instant think anyone that would buy a Dodge had any smarts in the first place? I almost did not even bother reading this thread just because of the title.
Actually, I'm not exactly sure what that statement means...
The "PowerStroke" gets it's name because of the way it's fueled during the "power stroke". Just like the Hemi got its name from the HEMIspheric heads.... A PowerStroke is still a "PowerStroke". Can't say that about the Hemis nowadays. But still, aren't there better head designs these days anyway?? I thought that's why they don't use that design anymore. That's a true statement, right?? (I'm a little behind the times in gasser head tech )
I "think" this may be a comparison of the 7.3 to a 6.0 or 6.4 maybe? Certainly not equal in our minds don't you think?

I have a friend exactly like this. His intake, hood scoop and 22s are good for 450 HP
Well now, a week ago I was cut off by Porsche. Yeah that's right a new fangled 94x something, well we were poised to turn left onto the highway get-on ramp (slightly uphill) the light turned green and off we went, he moderately accelerated and I hit it a little more than moderately. Now I know what you’re thinking, but I wasn't about to let him think he had cut off some slow azz truck. And you would have been impressed I stayed up with him for a good distance until he got nervous and laid into that Porsche. That poor car was getting spanked by its owner, needless to say he was gone in flash after he finally got into it, but he wasn't about to get away scot free and without using some gasoline!
Well my neighbor dose not like when stuff like this happens to me cause he has a hemi and i rub it in a little more every time i c him just as fun he dose the same to me.

i bought my truck to make money not friends lol
I did to, and after 9 years of owing it, it has made lots of money. After a couple of years here on FTE, I have made some true friendships that I can depend on, and it was all because of the truck.
Ok flame me but our family has an 06' 1500 hemi. My dad drives it, basically we got it when we where pretty down and out and couldnt afFORD the FORD ... But thats all over and business is strong so far. The hemi is fast from about 0-35 and after that its very average. The engine is geared totally wrong - lacks proper low end torque unlike the 5.4. My arrogant cousin has one with a "Muffler" and a throttle body spacer. always tells the family how fast it is and OF course , everyone eats up the BS. Most people that have ram 1500's around detroit use them just for show. They dont have any dents, scratches, or work marks on em. (Ours on the other hand is beat to ...well...ya know). This truck cannot handle what we throw at it. The interior is destroyed, the bed is scratched and dented from light work, and the engine and trans struggles when towing 4K. LAME LAME LAME! After my dad towed with my truck he cant wait till the lease is over. he keeps saying " ill never tow with a gasoline engine again" We are in search for brother or sister for my 7.3
Add another to that list of Hemi's beat. A few months ago I embarrased a kid and his girlfriend. He kept gettting even with me and gunning his motor after the light turned green and the lanes were going down to one lane. He gunned it, so I did as well. All he saw was smoke. ANd I just had Stage 2 loaded.
I don't usually do things like that but it was fun..........
I am waiting to kill me a Hemi, there is a guy I work with that has a Hemi Daytona. I am looking to run him down lol. Where abouts you live in TN Silver Stroke ?

They need a big fat turbo and juice for that though, not making it N/A like the old days!
