Well, I finally got my 55 on the road with my 302. I was driving it around the block. When I give it lots of gas it sputters, and when I got it in the driveway, she wont start. I do smell gas, and the carb was jetted for a 454. Could it be that Im getting too much gas? need to put different jets in? This would make sense, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks.
Edelbrock 600. Edelbrock performer intake. Im probably going to pick up a mild cam as well. I just got home from work, and she started up just right. This is the joy of building!
Well, I'll tell you when I first got my 53 on the road, it would spit and sputter and then die. I had one of those clear fuel filters on it and could see I wasn't getting any fuel. I found out when I put the v8 in it with headers, that it created too much heat on the original six cylinder fuel line. The original fuel line ran on the inside of the drivers side frame rail. I had to re-route it on the outside of the frame rail and the problem went away.
Well,
I went and adjusted my timing (with some help from a friend) and found that I was way off. I set the dwell, and she runs much better. I still however die when I punch it, but she starts again like she should. I did leave rubber in the driveway this morning, and the lil' lady wasnt too happy Im going electronic ignition this week, so this should help some of my problems. Now all I have to do is set my carb like I like it, and get some decent shocks already!
try disconnecting the vacuum advance and see what it does. Just make sure you plug it so you dont have any vacuum leaks. While your in teh carb might want to make sure your floats are adjusted correctly. Kinda sounds like you are getting too much fuel
