I installed a new injector pump, injectors, return lines in a 1984 F-350 6.9L then had it timed and the engine no longer blows white smoke. I purchased the parts from Dieselcare on Ebay and other then shipping damage on the first injector pump everything works fine after 1500 miles.
Items replaced to get the truck to pass safety inspection and run:
Water pump
Radiator
Heater core
Starter
Alternator
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
All hoses
All fan belts
Windshield
Steering Wheel
Horn
AM Radio with FM/AM/CD radio
Antenna
Alarm with door locks (really lazy)
Glow Plugs
Glow Plug Controller
Power Steering pump and hoses
Tie rods
Exhaust Muffler
It all wasn't bad when I started, things just kept breaking as I tried to drive it.
I had to do the same thing. I was blowing white smoke all the time. Replaced injectors and all the return lines and adjusted the timing with no luck. Replaced the IP and it runs great. I have yet to time the pump but it still runs 100% better. I hope to have it timed this weekend.
